Noise at Work – how to improve results

Noise at Work – how to improve results. Croner-i recently published an article announcing the launch of the new UK Association formed to promote hearing conservation in the UK. The UK Hearing Conservation Association (HCA) claims that current noise risk at work management programmes are not working, and that improvements are needed in several key areas.

At ARGENTA Wellness we are particularly interested in that their focus will be on preventable causes of hearing loss and hearing health impact “through common sense, cost effective, evidenced solutions”.

We use and advocate Ecophon technology. Ecophon is one of the founding members of the HCA. We print images on their sound-absorbing boards. It’s simple and cost-effective. An expert goes into the workplace and measures the sound levels, they then recommend how many boards, we print them, and everyone’s sound environment is improved. cost-effective, simple and quick. It also looks very beautiful and inspiring. So it’s a win win for everyone.

Businesses are now calculating the financial burden that poor sound environments can have on their business. Considering mis-communication resulting in errors in production, medical interventions, educational environments, international calls where sound ricochets on glass or bare walls in boardrooms and offices. Having to double on work or production, repeating instructions, all causes stress and takes time. In health care environments potential loss of life where the wrong medication is given or diagnosis misinterpreted as a result of not hearing properly.

Preventing the £100 billion loss to the British economy

Preventing the £100 billion loss to the British economy. 70 million working days are lost each year due to mental ill-health, costing Britain £70-£100 billion, according to the Mental Health Foundation, with a 24% increase to the number of working days lost in the past 6 years the number of working days due to stress, depression and anxiety. How do we improve this? The solution is closer and cheaper than you think.

It is now widely accepted that wellbeing plays a major part in the mental health of people which also improves productivity. Long gone are the days of shutting staff into offices with bad lighting, backs to the doors, 12 hour screen time, noise levels rivalling Paddington Station, poor decor, sad walls and battered floors.  There is an improvement in trends for office design and workplaces, but in the health environment, it is lagging behind. A recent 24 hour trip to the A and E department of a local hospital, staff were so overworked in a dilapidated ward, paint peeling, no natural light, angry patients, tired and unhappy staff. It wouldn’t have taken a brain surgeon to have worked out that improving the environment would help CALM, relax patients and staff, reducing anger and tension, making the unavoidable a much more comfortable experience for everyone. It really doesn’t cost the earth to create a “spa-like” environment that is practical, hygienic and calm. We know, we have the solution which will revolutionise our NHS and every health environment in the country and beyond.

Not rocket science.  It is constantly being proven that seeing nature on a daily basis improves wellness, encouraging productivity, happiness, staff retention, less sick days due to mental ill-health which means reduction in financial loss overall.

This is particularly important in the health market. Countless studies prove that nature IMPROVES and even accelerates HEALING. See our other articles on our site. Nature stimulus enhancing birth experience ; ICU – Intensive Care Units and Nature, etc. Whether it’s an office space or an Accident and Emergency ward you are looking to improve, give us a call, we have many solutions to help. We bring nature to you in any environment, in any location – offering practical and cost-effective solutions leading to reduction in sick days and improvement to working and everyday lives. For everyone. Always.

ICU – Intensive Care Units and Nature

ICU – Intensive Care Units and Nature “Rethinking the intensive care environment: considering nature in nursing practice” is an excellent paper by Claire Minton, MN, RN, Lesley Batten, PhD, RN, it “explores evidence related to the negative impacts of the intensive care unit environment on patient outcomes and explores the potential counteracting benefits of ‘nature-based’ nursing interventions as a way to improve care outcomes.”

They explore the fact that ” The impact of the environment in which a patient is nursed has long been recognised as one determinant in patient outcomes. Whilst the contemporary intensive care unit environment contains many features that support the provision of the intensive therapies the patient requires, it can also be detrimental, especially for long-stay patients.”

The results of the paper advises the adoption of nature-based nursing interventions in intensive care units in order to counteract environmental stressors, but instead enhance the environment for patient’s families and nurses, which would speed up recovery.

Argenta-Wellness provides water and fire proof prints on metal which can be cleaned throughly in any environment preventing cross-contamination while enhancing the patient experience while undergoing treatment. We are always on the end of the phone or email, please contact us to discuss how we can help make lives better with you.

Nature stimulus enhancing birth experience

A fascinating report in HERD: Health Environments Research and Design Journal, reports results of research studying the influence of nature stimulus in enhancing the birth experience.

“These findings support the study hypothesis which states that the nature images would influence the labor experience positively. In addition, the findings emphasize the importance of incorporating non-pharmacological techniques in the labor and delivery room (LDR) units to soothe the pain. Adding nature imagery to the LDR environment can be one of these techniques.

At Argenta-Wellness we provide hospitals and delivery rooms, with beautiful images from nature. That’s what we do, we make lives better. Contact us to discuss how we can make the immediate world the babies you deliver into,  a better and more beautiful one.

Patient Recovery

We developed our biophilic range of fine art so it can support the wellness movement and help improve the lives of workers, patients and families. Our Argenta-Wellness range is water and fire-proof and can go anywhere from surgery to recovery room, board-room to nursery, wet-room to a living wall.

While ideally one would install natural light, plants, waterfalls within a hospital environment, of course it is not practical in buildings already designed and built. Often there are no windows in rooms, or recovery rooms are soulless places, missing something natural. Hospitals and healthcare spaces are sterile environments for health reasons and so they should be, one advantage of installing Argenta-Wellness imagery into any recovery room, surgery, waiting rooms, A and E, Isolation rooms is that they can be cleaned with detergent (they are waterproof and fireproof). You can even install them in wet rooms to create a feeling of wellness as patients are washing, bringing a spa feeling to an otherwise unlikely environment. So also there are no concerns for an increase in maintenance costs, as they can be cleaned and wiped as part of the usual clean-up procedures.

Bringing the outdoors in can enhance the wellbeing of staff and patients alike, encouraging staff retention and happiness, and recovery for patients freeing up beds.
